FILET OF SOUL

The band was founded by Brendan Connolly and Shannon Winters in the summer of 2004. The two have been friends and co-workers for the past 18 years. Although they were aware of the fact that they both played guitar and were in many bands, the two thought they had no common ground to play together or put a band together. One summer day, Brendan asked Shannon to bring his guitar over for some drinks and a barbeque. Over many Coors Lights, the two realized they had a lot in common musically, and thus Filet of Soul was born. Next to come on board was Bill MacKay, Brendan's brother-in-law and the only educated musician in the band. Bill came over to play Bass with them and liked what he heard. After searching for a drummer in the want ads the band stumbled upon Bob Penny, the brother of Shannon's wife's friend. They started out playing with this lineup and soon found two killer Sax player's, Franco and Danny Ray. One night at Briody’s Bar in Rumson, the Dave McCarthy band was playing and a girl stepped up to the mic to sing. After the set, Shannon and Brendan asked her if she was looking for a band to play in. Marnie Doherty joined the band on vocals and keys and Filet Of Soul was complete.
